An automotive engineer, Ferdinand Porsche (pronounced POR-shey) was well known for creating the first hybrid vehicle called the Lohner Porsche, Volkswagen Beetle and Mercedes-Benz SSK Model.
He founded his firm in 1931 after having a long stint at the Austrian automobile firm Lohner and Austro-Dalmler. He moved to Germany to work for Dalmler (Mercedes) in 1926, but difference between him and the management forced him to quit after 3 years. He returned back to his native Austria to work for another firm Steyr Auto (Steyr-Puch-Dalmler) before venturing on his own.
Porsche today is owned by the Volkswagen Group, which itself is owned by the Porsche Family Holdings
