Triumph Motor Company, though British was established by two Germans Siegfried Bettmann and Maurice Schulte in 1887.

They first started by making bicycles and by 1918 were the largest manufacturers of motorcycles in Great Britain. In 1921, they brought over a firm called Dawson Car Co. and produced few cars. Then in 1945, the Co. got sold to the Standard Motor Company and renamed it as Standard Triumph International.

Rest is history as Triumph went on to create several legendary cars from Vanguards to Herald.

The Herald was also produced in Madras (Chennai).
