Bavarian Motor Works or BMW (pronounced BEE-emm-VAY) was founded in 1916. The Co. started by manufacturing aircraft's until the end of the World War 1.
From 1923 onwards they started producing motorcycles (BMW Motorrad) before shifting to making cars. It is also the parent company of Mini and Rolls-Royce Motor Company in the UK.
BMW came to India in 2006 and today has its manufacturing facility at Chennai.
