The Peugeot D4 van is a product of another French firm called Chenard-Walcker that Peugeot had later taken control of.
Somewhere in the early 50's when things were getting heated up in the service sector, Citroen took the move to develop their Type H range of vans. Chenard-Walcker who were already known for their cars decided not to lose out on this segment. They develop the D3 vans that are smaller than the Type H and yet more versatile and this makes their vans popular
An improvisation of the earlier model D3, the D4 is launched with the engine of the then newly launched Peugeot 403 that has a 1468cc engine. By this time, the new D4 vans were labelled Peugeot.
This van was also used by the motorcycle division of Peugeot to service their mopeds.
