AMG stands for the first word of the initials of its founders Hans Werner Aufrecht, Erhard Melcher and the place where Hans Werner Aufrecht was born i.e. Großaspach (Grossaspach).
AMG built a racing coupe for circuit competition making use of the Mercedes-Benz SLC. Hans Werner Aufrecht (co-founder of AMG) wanted to win over Jaguar and Alpina-BMW in the European Touring Car Championship with the SLC.
According to the Group 2 regulations, the coupe had to weigh less than 1225 kg. while the standard 450 SLC stood nearly 1700 kg.. AMG succeeded in upping the output of the 4.5 liter V8 engine to 375 hp from 217 hp and at the same time, the rated engine speed was increased from a modest 5000 to 6550 rpm. Rest is history.
This scale model is highly detailed and 1 of the only 500 pieces made.
