ZiL Horse Carrier Moscow Olympics (1980) Scale - 1:43

The Russian ZiL (also known as KAVZ) trucks with an 8 cylinder petrol, water-cooled engine were designed for transportation of agricultural produce and industrial goods under any conditions and all weather use, including freezing Siberian winters.

During the summer of 1980 at the Moscow Olympics, special ZiL made trucks were used to transport horses for equestrian events. Each carrier could hold up to six horses. It had 3 compartments front, rear and the middle. While the front and rear were taken up by three horses each, the middle section had space for the trainer, veterinarian and a groom (caretaker of horse). The long truck also had a special place to keep 250 kg. of fodder. About 20 trucks were specially deployed during the Olympics.

A rare metal collectible for those who witnessed the 1980 Moscow Olympics which was significant as USA and sixty five other countries did not participate fully or partially in the Games. It was in this summer games, that the great Indian sprinter P.T. Usha made her debut at the age of 16 and the Indian hockey team won the hockey gold medal after a long gap.
