Yakovlev Yak-3 - Normandie Regiment - Sauvage Scale -

The Yakovlev Yak-3 was a World War II Soviet fighter aircraft introduced in 1944. It was one of the smallest and lightest major combat fighters of the conflict, but was robust, easy to maintain, and much loved by pilots and ground crew alike.

The Yak 3 was built by designer Alexander Sergeyevich Yakovlev in Tbilisi (modern-day capital of Georgia), powered by a  Klimov M-105P engine and mounted with ShKAS machine guns as well as ShVAK cannons. Besides the Soviets, it was purchased by the Polish, Yugoslav, and French-Algerian (Normandie-Niemen Regiment) air forces.

This scale model is a rendition of the one that was used by Roger Sauvage, a black African pilot of mixed parentage whose team fought the Germans as volunteer forces on behalf of Stalin during the Second World War.
