When Ford do Brasil purchased the Willys-Overland do Brasil operations in 1967, the new firm was renamed as Ford-Willys-Overland do Brasil. One of the models that also came with the acquisition was the Jeep Station Wagon or Willys Rural.
After using the original Willys engine, Ford decided to install her own designed 4-cylinder 2.3 litre engine called OHC. It is said that this new model became so popular among the local populace that it was nicknamed the “grandmother of SUV models”.
