The Volvo P1800 ES Rocket was the original model that was developed as a successor to the popular Volvo P1800 S.
The management at Volvo contacted Turin (Italy) based automotive designer Pietro Frua (who had designed the Maserati Mistral) to make a new model that will retain the same charm as the P1800 S but what came out from Frua’s studio was a model that was very futuristic for those times. It was so modern that it was nicknamed Rakuten (Rocket).
The original model can still be seen at the Volvo Museum in Sweden.
