It was in 1993 that Volvo introduced the Volvo 850 in stationwagon variant. Designed by legendary Jan Wilsgaard, this model was a marked departure from Volvo’s usual designs and had a number of patented features related to safety and side impact collision (SIPS).
It was however in 1995 that the world saw how safety and comfort could be bended together. Under the newly introduced R-series, Volvo offered customers with the Volvo 850 T5-R, a newly designed Porsche assisted engine with seats that were also Porsche inspired.
This car had daytime running lamps (today, an industry standard for high-end cars), 3-point seat-belts in all the seats, onboard diagnostic systems (an industry first and now an industry standard), side airbags in seat cushions, side skirts, hydraulic dampers, ABS, Traction control, self-levelling suspension, Alcantara leather seats, etc.
Though initial plans for this model was to produce very few, public demand outstrip supplies and so Volvo decided to have one more production lot in 1996. Nearly 7000 of this model rolled out.
This scale model is the exact rendition of the model that Volvo produced using Jonquil (a type of flower) yellow colour.
