
The 200 Series was designed by the legendary Jan Wilsgaard, who was Volvo’s Chief Designer. The 200 Series is a range that was so popular that it sold in excess of 28 lakh (2,800,000) cars.
Under this series, there were two models called the 240 and the 260 that had a continuous production run for almost two decades, beginning in 1974. The models were produced in Sweden (Torslanda and Kalmar), Australia (Melbourne), Belgium (Ghent), Canada (Halifax), Italy (Turin), Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.
The model Volvo 240, with different trim levels, was given various names such as GTX, Polar, Super Polar, SE, etc.. The Volvo 240 Polar was a entry-level model that was made only for Belgium, Germany, and Italy.
