It was in 1974 that the first VW Golf rolled out. This model that is sold as VW Rabbit in North America and as VW Caribe in Mexico went on to give birth to several Volkswagen cars from Jetta to Vento to the VW Bora.
This scale model is a replica of the 2nd generation Golf, which has a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with very good fuel economy. Volkswagen claimed that only 4.2 litres of diesel were needed to travel 100 kilometers.
The letters GTD stand for "Gran Turismo Diesel," meaning a blend of sporty style and long-distance performance.
