The VW T1 was the first generation van from the house of Volkswagen and was basically an idea of their Dutch distributor Ben Pon who wanted to make use of their popular Beetle into a van for carrying goods and wares.
The idea impressed the workers of the VW factory as that would ease their way of transporting pallets within the factory. The then CEO of Volkswagen Heinrich Nordoff approved the plans and the first vehicle was named Bulli.
German company Kleinschnittger produced microcars with the economy in mind. They made the F-125 car with a 125 cc two-stroke engine in an aluminium body which gave a top speed of 70 km/hr. It could cover 100 km in less than 3 litres fuel, successfully delivering a very fuel efficient product to the masses.
Kleinschnittger purchased few VW T1 vans and modified the vans to carry upto 4 cars i.e. two on the roof and two on specially made trailer*.
