The VEB Sachsenring's Trabant was communist East Germany's reply to the Volkswagen Beetle of West Germany.
The body was constructed with a special fibre that had wood and cotton fibres as reinforcement. It was so simple a car that it lacked even the basic brake lights and turning signals in the beginning. With a 2-cylinder, 2-stroke 600 cc engine, this microcar was extremely popular and was sold to even countries in Europe such as Finland, Greece, Switzerland, etc.
Several of them were made in to campers for outdoor picnics and night stay.
