Toyota’s Sera popularity was more perhaps because of its stylish design and familiarity since it got featured in several movies in Japanese, Bangladeshi and also in the 1999 Tamil film called Padayappa starring Rajnikant.
With a glass roof canopy and butterfly doors, the Sera was first launched as a concept car in 1988 before it went into production from the year 1990. For the next 5 years, nearly 16,000 were produced.
Several were also imported into India in the mid-nineties.
