This microcar called the Toyota Publica (the name Publica was selected so as to appeal to the general public) was made during the years 1961-1968.
Though the initial plan was to make one with a 500 cc engine, Toyota settled for a higher 697 cc, 2-cylinder car that gave 28 HP since it gave them the flexibility of making several variants such as sedan, coupe, pick-up. With 2-doors this car would accommodate 4 passengers and also had sizeable space for keeping small luggage.
This microcar became an all-time hit in Japan and by the end of its production run nearly 128,000 were produced.
