Evolving out of the Toyota made Celica Liftback, the Celica (ST185) is one of the most successful models for Toyota in sports racing. Making her debut first in 1988 Tour de Corse, this car went on to win several championships across the world.
At the 1992 event of the world’s most toughest endurance rally - Safari Rally, held in Kenya on 27th March - 1st April, 1992, one Toyota Celica drove nearly 4400 km and won the event by taking a lead time of nearly 60 minutes over a Lancia Delta HF Integrale (Kankkunen Juha / Piironen Juha), that came second.
Martini Racing who were the sponsors that year took care of the entire logistics including organizing 63 mechanics, five chase cars, eight SUVs, two choppers, trucks for carrying tyres and spares and even an aircraft for maintaining radio communications with participants.
