The Flyer was so named because it ran the fastest during early 20th century. It ran the entire length of USA in 41 days, 8 hours and 15 minutes under warm conditions. In sub-arctic cold winters, the Flyer even traversed the entire length of USA in 169 days, a remarkable feat in 1910.
With a 4 cylinder, 60 HP engine the Flyer built by E. R. Thomas Motor Co. also ran a race that began in New York city and ended up in Paris, France over 35,000 kms. With participating firms such as Dion Bouton, Motobloc, etc. the Thomas Flyer easily won this race.
Then in the Around The World Race, when after 13,000 brutal miles and 171 days of racing around the globe, the all-American Thomas Flyer crossed the finish line. The winner of the first and only Around the World Race
