The Subaru BRAT or Bi-Drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter already created a fan following in several countries after it's 1977 launch. Following it's success story, was the next utility vehicle created.
Peter Tenn, the design manager of Subaru America who had earlier made a concept vehicle (ST-X), was the brain behind creating this crossover pick-up truck in 2003. This model advertised as a "multiple choice vehicle" was launched to beat competition coming from Ford Explorer Sport-Trac and Chevrolet Avalanche.
Produced for three years, the Subaru Baja (named after a Mexican desert) had a 2.5 litre engine under the bonnet giving a power output of 165 hp.
