VeloSoleX or Solex (popularly called) was first produced in 1946 and until 2011 over 80 lakh mopeds were sold in over 70 countries. The concept of a motor, resting on the front wheel of a bicycle came out of necessity during World War II.
The Company advertised this as "la bicyclette qui roule toute seule" or the bicycle that drives itself and was extremely popular among college students and plant workers.
