The development of the French made Simca 1000 was as a result of a collaboration between FIAT, Italy and Simca. This happened because Simca’s President, Henri Pigozzi who was of Italian origin was a friend of Giovanni Agnelli (founder of FIAT).
A small rear-engined, four-door saloon car, these were produced during the years 1961 – 1978. The management of Simca used a strategy to market these models as taxis so that they can sell large volumes. The strategy though worked for a small time in France, caught up abroad and the Simca 1000 were used as Taxis in Dakar, Senegal.
