After the end of relationship between German MAN and French firm Saviem, Saviem came up with a new series of trucks called the SM series. Using the cab design of the Renault* made Super Galion and Super Goelette (read Renault Goelette – Dakar Taxi), these medium-duty trucks would carry a payload of 8 tons.
These Saviem SM 8 were produced during the years 1967–1975. British Petroleum (BP) also purchased these fuel tankers for transport.
