The ROVER SD1 project's aim was to provide a 5 door super car that will transport corporate executives. SD means Specialist Division that was the brainwork of two persons - Spen King and David Bache. The number 1 was attached since it was their first in-house project. Vitesse was the luxury variant with 4-speaker stereo, headlamp washer, electric-adjustable mirrors / windows/ lock, etc.
In India, the same model was produced by Standard Motors, Madras and sold as Standard 2000.
