It is still not clear why the Rover company went on to call two different types of vehicles the 3500. One was the Rover P6 that was made between 1968 and 1977, and the other was the SD1 that was produced between 1976 and 1986 (similar to our Standard 2000).
The Rover P6 series, with two models i.e., 2000 and 2200, was first launched in 1963. The very next year it was voted as the European Car of the Year.
The model Rover 3500 was launched in 1968 with the promise that this car with a much lighter engine would run faster than the previous models. It was fitted with a V8 engine and it could travel up to 185 km/hr.
Until 1977, over 80,000 were produced.
