The then Raja of Nanpara (Bahraich district in U.P) Syed Mohammad Saadat Ali Khan had imported a 40/50 HP, 7668 cc engine Rolls-Royce Phantom Ghost Hooper (coachbuilder) cabriolet in 1925. This car was actually diverted to him after the original owner, an American didn’t buy for some reason.
The Raja somehow didn’t like the shape and decided to strip it down after some years of usage. After about 10 years, the car was shipped to famous Belgian coachbuilder, Jonckheere. What founder Henri Jonckheere created was something so unique that it was known as the “round door Rolls-Royce” (because of her circle-shaped doors). The best part of this car was that in spite of her long length, oversized front grille and luscious curves, the geometric pattern was maintained by the coachbuilder.
Somewhere in the 1980’s this car was placed at an auction and an anonymous Japanese brought this car for US$ 1.5 million.
