After Renault’s huge success of the 4CV model, Renault was seeking another bockbuster. And so Renault came up with the Fregate (Frégate) in 1951 after working on a project titled ‘Project 110’. Several features were first – enough space, smoother contours, independent wheel suspension, automatic transmission called Transfluide (it was introduced after few years).
Offering two engine options – 1.9 litre and a 2.1 litre, and produced between 1951-1960, the Renault Fregate would go on to become a hit.
