A Swiss called Rupprecht von Senger who was instrumental in setting up the Porsche dealership network across Europe was also friend of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. Senger visited the Porsche office in 1946. He wanted Dr. Porsche to make a 2-seater car for his personal use that was unique in design. So Dr. Porsche asks his friend Hans Waibel (well known automobile designer) to make one.
In 1948, Waibel created a car using the body/chassis of a Volkswagen with engine of a Porsche. That car was Porsche Waibel. The Porsche Waibel laid down the foundation of future Porsche 356 models.
