'Targa' is an centuries old West Germanic word for shield (to protect). For Porsche it is the hood that can be removed from the roof leaving the central roll-bar for passenger safety. First used in 1967, the Targa today is a successful variant for the Porsche brand.
The Targa had always been associated with Porsche 911 and in USA where it was introduced first, it was to address the vulnerability of soft top convertibles (the soft-top convertibles would not provide any form of protection in case of a roll-over crash). The Targa variant could.
The Porsche 911 Turbo Targa 3.3 is essentially the Porsche 930 but with a powerful 3.3 litre turbocharged engine that gives 300 hp. It has a twin tailpipe exhaust system that allows the exhaust gases to escape through the left pipe when control valve of the turbocharger opened.
Till this date nearly 19,000 have been produced.
