Based on the successful 911 platform, Porsche embarked on a GT racing program developing a massive 300 hp from its 2.8 litre engine.
During the 18th edition of the 1000 km rally, Tour de France Automobile held between 14-24th September, 1973, this Porsche 911 RSR was driven by Frenchmen Hervé Bayard and René Ligonnet.
Though this car did not finish the race, due to mechanical failure, this car attracted the attention of the public. It was because this car was painted with characters of the Charlot family from the comical movie “Le Grand Bazaar” that was directed by Claudi Zidi. The figures on the side of the car consisted of characters Luis Rego, Gérard Filipelli, Jean Sarrus and Gérard Rinaldi.
