Based on the successful 911 platform, Porsche embarked on a GT racing program developing a massive 300 hp from its 2.8 litre engine.
In 1973 this car was raced in 10 different races and came in the top 10 spot seven times. But at Targo Florio, in Sicily the Porsche 911 RSR Carrera made history.
The last ever race conducted in Sicily also happened to be the Porsche 911 RSR debut season. This machine driven by two time Targo Florio winner Herbert M?ller and talented Dutchman Gijs van Lennep won the championship after doing 11 laps and 792 kms.
Nearly 50 of the Porsche 911 RSR's were produced.
