Developed by Porsche especially for the German Military, this SUV variant couldn’t qualify in the tender process as it was found that producing this vehicle would not only be very expensive but also impractical (the final model selected was the DKW made Munga, available with Scale Model Cart).
The Porsche 597 ‘Jagdwagen’ when translated meant a hunting car, had it’s engine taken straight from a Porsche 356 and had no doors. It’s occupants had to climb over the SUV to step in since there were no doors fitted.
Porsche did try to make few models for the civilian market but this too failed. In the end only about 70 were produced in four years.
