Though its evolution was from the RS 550 Spyder, the Porsche 550A was different from it's predecessor - it made use of a full tube spaceframe with number of rear cross-members.
This car with a flat-four, air-cooled engine, 1.5 litre engine giving a power output of 135 hp was designed by Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann (who later went on to become the Chairman of the Co.).
The entire aluminium body work was entrusted to one coach builder based out of Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg. The company that gave shape to the car model Gutbrod Superior (available at Scale Model Cart) managed to make the body one of the most iconic ones.
This car first participated at the 1956 Nuerbringing race of 1000 kms.
This metal model car has been created to commemorate the evolution of the firm Porsche on her 70th anniversary with only 777 pieces created.
