Since its development from the late nineties and introduction in 2007, Peugeot has sold more than 7 million (70 lakh) engines making this automobile giant one of the biggest suppliers of diesel engines. Peugeot with this engine eventually won the Le Mans race in the same year.
After the successes of the earlier 905, Peugeot wanted to develop a more powerful machine. This resulted in the development of the 3.7 litre, 550 hp V8 diesel engine that also had a special particulate filter or Filtre à Particules (FAP).
This #4 car owned by Team Oreca Matmut had Oliver Panis, Nicolas Lapierre, Stéphane Sarrazin as drivers at the Le Mans race in 2010.
