The Peugeot 205 was a very small 2-door car that first rolled out in 1983. Since Peugeot wanted to enter into the races, it was mandatory that every car maker has to produced certain number of cars under regular production before can it can participate in any rally’s. And so the Peugeot 205 T16 got evolved. And only 200 were produced.
It got a 1.8 litre turbocharged engine with a gearbox that was from Citroen SM (placed transversely). The body was built by coachmaker Heuliez who built a tubular structure and provided flared arches with air scoops on it’s bonnet and sides.
At the 1985 Rothmans (leading British brand of cigarettes) sponsored Tour de Corse rally conducted in the month of May, Frenchmen Bernard Darniche & Alain Mahé drove a car that was a Peugeot 205 T16 that was sponsored by world famous French brand of cigarettes, Gauloises. The car however did not finish the race as the fuel pump malfunctioned.
