ENASA who were the owners of the Spanish brand Pegaso worked on an order that they had received from the Egyptian Ministry of Defence. This order was for 13,000 trucks to be used by the Egyptian army and conditions were quite rigid.
What resulted was the development of this model Pegaso 3046 that was also procured by the Libyan military (under the orders of Libyan dictator Col. Muammar Gaddafi^). The engine was a Pegaso made 10.0 litre that gave a power output of 170 hp. Spain’s civil forces also procured this model in good quantities.
In the 1990 edition of the Paris-Dakar rally, these trucks participated for the first time. This particular model numbered 578 sponsored by Suzuki was driven by Hernández / Ruiz-Molero / Montes.
