Based on Ponton type design, GM's European divison launched the Opel Rekord Olympia in 1953, as a small family car. With a 1.5 litre engine and having 3-speed manual transmission, the Opel Rekord Olympia had one distinct feature that the public could see every year - the front grille would change every year. And every grille would be distinct.
The public took so much liking to this model that there was a time when sales were nearly the same as the Volkswagen Beetle. Nearly 6 lakh cars were produced until 1957.
This particular model from the year 1953 had a front grille that earned the nickname - Haifischmaul Kühlergrill *.
