Borrowing elements from the earlier made Opel Olympia with the 1.1 litre engine (also from the earlier made Opel Olympia), the Opel Kadett K38 was a small family car meant for the general public. It's interior was kept bare minimum and maintenance cost was low.
Produced during the years 1937-1940, nearly 75,000 cars rolled out from Opel's Rüsselsheim plant.
It was during this time, that the visiting team from the Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod (GAZ) were so impressed by this model's performance that they decided to produce the same in the Soviet Union. This model was the Moskvich 400*.
