This breakthrough design evolved in 1964 when Neoplan (coach builders) founder's son decided to have a double-deck bus that could take maximum number of passengers for touring around cities.
Konrad Auwärter's design for the NH22L model had a low frame front axle with forward mounting steering gear that could permit a low flat floor for easy passage for elderly passengers.
The design called SKYLINER was an immediate hit and they produced these buses for nearly over 20 years with 3 manufacturing facilities. They even built a plant in Ghana, Africa to cater to customer's needs.
