In the days when motorized bicycles were the norm, NSU’s newly developed moped called Quickly with a 2-stroke engine and a 2-speed gearbox changed the way how people looked at mopeds, a new form of transport that was just beginning to grow in the mid-fifties.
Germany’s NSU in a short span of time sold over 5 lakh (500,000) mopeds with only one Unique Selling Point or USP – Service. Service assistance was provided even in remote corners of Germany and elsewhere. With assistance from sister company DKW for the design of the small engine, this 50 cc moped became so popular next to the Volkswagen Beetle that people started naming the product, a ‘Volksmoped’.
Few years later the moped was given a 3-speed gear and was provided with dual seats.
