The Mitsubishi Lancer was derived out of the sub-compact Japanese car called Mirage. The Lancer was sold under different names in different countries such as Colt, Chrysler Valiant, Galant Fortis, etc. Since 1973 until this date, over 60 lakh cars have been manufactured.
In India, the Lancer was made by Hindustan Motors Ltd. at Thiruvallur (Tamil Nadu).
