First produced in 1971, the Mitsubishi Galant FTO GSR^ had a 1.4 litre Mitsubishi Neptune 4G4 engine (later a 1.6 litre Mitsubishi made Saturn 4G3 engine was used) and used the shorter chassis of Mitsubishi Galant.
Now why were the words FTO used for this car model is a big mystery but it is said that the words meant Fresco Turismo Omologato (in Italian) which loosely meant ‘Fresh Touring Origin’.
This car model was produced until 1975.
