Mikoyan - MiG-29 Fulcrum-A - Russian Air Force Scale -

During the peak of the Cold War between the West and the East, the Communist bosses felt that it was time to develop a front-line fighter plane to tackle the sophisticated American fighter planes such as the F-15 Eagle and the F-16’s. The directions were to produce a frontline fighter that could travel long distances, land on simple runways, carry the maximum number of weapons and have a speed of over Mach 2.

The MiG-29 which also goes by the nickname that NATO has given, i.e., Fulcrum, has been designed and developed at the Mikoyan & Gurevich Design Bureau. It is powered by two powerful Klimov RD-33 turbofan engines and saw service for the first time in 1982. Since then, this plane and its several variants, such as the MiG-29K and the MiG-29M, still continue to be produced and have been exported to over 30 countries.

India too has nearly 50 of these in several variants.

Domna is the home base for several air regiments of the Russian Air Force. One of these is the 120th Guards Regiment, with its characteristic shark mouths and the Russian double-headed eagle on the stabilizers. On the left fuselage, behind the cockpit, is a small cartoon of an F-15 being chased by a MiG-29. This scale model is a rendition of the same plane.
