To compete with Chevrolet’s Nomad that was launched in 1955, Ford Motor Company’s Mercury division launched their new model called Parklane in 1958 with a Ford made MEL V8 engine that gave an out put of 360 hp.
Ford maintained a strategy of keeping the price lower by US$ 300 over the Nomad (in today’s equivalent it was priced Rs. 2 lakh lesser). This amount was a considerable difference looking at the final price of Rs. 16.4 laks (in today’s value).
Sales figures reflected it’s success in two years, the Mercury Parklane sold twice as the number of all Nomad’s. However production of the same ended in 1960.
Created by Sergio Goldvarg, a Guinness Book of Record holder, each scale model is highly detailed and only 150-230 pieces created. There will be no re-run production of this model.
