The first Anderthalbdecker was created by a Essen, Germany bus-body coachbuilder in 1955. Thereafter these one-and-a-half decker buses did become popular in the late 1950s and the whole of the 1960s.
These Mercedes O 317 buses had a better advantage than the double decker buses i.e. they could easily pass a lowly built underpass.
