After Daimler Benz decided to enter into a joint alliance with Renault-Nissan, the first product created was this Mercedes-Benz X Class.
Essentially the famous pick-up Nissan Navara, it has been given a complete makeover, though several body panels of the Navara have been used. It was launched in July 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa, where the first units were sold. Nissan has a plant in South Africa where the Navara is made.
The X Class or W470 (technical name) was later produced by the Nissan factory in Barcelona, Spain: Nissan Motor Ibérica. It was launched in Europe with the tagline "Pickup Meets Lifestyle—Trailer."
However, sales didn't pick up the way Mercedes expected since the public thought that it was more of an upgraded version of the Nissan pick-up model, Navarra. Production was finally halted in 2020.
