During the autumn of the year 1928, the Mercedes-Benz's first 8-cylinder car the Nuerburg 460 (written as Nuerberg in English and pronounced New-BOOKH) was launched. During the design stage the factory designated code was W08 and Dr. Ferdinand Porsche worked closely with this model.
Mercedes-Benz idea to launch this model was to give some tough fight the popularity of the Horch 8 model that was known for her powerful engine and interior spaciousness. Since it was a race against time, it appears that Dr. Porsche made several flaws in the design of this car. Example was the overslung chassis this design had wherein the longitudinal chassis sat directly over the axles compared to the trend that car makers were following during this period i.e. opting for the underslung chassis where the axles rested above the load bearing chassis beams.
Mercedes developed a powerful 4622 cc engine that could do about 100 km/hr. The interior luxuries provided were the finest that any car maker could give during this period.
