The idea of having the G-Class was seeded by the former Shah of Iran, Reza Pehlavi who was a substantial stakeholder in the Mercedes-Benz Group. The first G-Class SUV made its entry in 1979.
The G-Class are actually not made by Daimler Benz but has been sub-contracted to an Austrian firm called Magna Steyr who makes them and ships them worldwide. The same is also sold inside Austria as Puch G.
The series W463 is a series that was first launched in 1990, on a new chassis. The interior was given a completely new look with lots of leather upholstery. This class of vehicle offered customers a larger choice of different engines and are made until this day.
