Mercedes-Benz debuted this unique vehicle during the 1997 Frankfurt Auto Show. Primarily a 3 wheel car, the vehicle could run like a motorcycle and yet could provide both the occupants the luxury and safety of a car. Mercedes labelled it as Life Jet.
The very idea of the Active Tilt Control (ATC) that is now used in all the latest generation of S-Class Coupe’s came out from this revolutionary vehicle. What the system did was it calculated on its own the steering angle, acceleration during any cornering and conveyed the calculated commands to the hydraulic cylinder on the front axle resulting in the occupants not having to tilt due to centrifugal forces that act while a vehicle is making a turn.
Using the 1.6 litre engine of their A-Class model, this Mercedes-Benz F300 could travel at speeds of 200 km/hr (it did 0-100 km/hr in less than 8 seconds) and yet provided fuel savings (this vehicle used just 5.3 litres of petrol to travel a distance of 100 kms).
