Mercedes Benz C111-IV Scale - 1:43

From the very beginning, the aim of Mercedes-Benz engineers was to create a car that would be purely experimental. They wanted to create something more iconic, more safe, etc. like their success story of the Mercedes 300SL "Gullwing". So, under the direction of the world famous Bruno Sacco, the creation of yet another ultimate car, began. Felix Wankel, the inventor of the rotary engine, provided additional input.

Therefore, the use of Wankel’s (NSU's famed rotary piston) engine, the use of reinforced glass-fibre sheet as the body, and attaching high-performing mechanical parts that would enhance overall performance on racing tracks across the world and create records of all kinds were all sought. Fans of Mercedes, meanwhile, hoped that Mercedes would change their mind and come up with an actual car. Dealers were flooded with enquiries in anticipation of one great new car. Several enthusiasts went on to proceed by sending blank cheques, so one could be it’s first owner.

That model was the Mercedes-Benz C111 that rolled out in 1969 with a 3-rotor Wankel (rotary) engine that could take the car to a top speed of 260 km/h with 280 hp. Another round of improvements allowed this new car, dubbed C111-II, with a four-rotor Wankel engine to reach 300 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3.8 seconds. Eventually, there were few other models developed in the same series – C111-II, C111-IID, C111-III and this C111-IV.

The C111-IV was the final version of all the prototypes that Mercedes made that appeared around May, 1979. This car set several racing records at the Pista di prova di Nardò della Fiat racetrack in Italy (also known as the Nardo Ring Circuit). The top speed of the CIII-IV was 405 km/hr.

To make this car look distinct from all the other C111's that were painted in orange-red or white, this one was painted in silver.
