On 17th September 1980, Anastasio Somoza Debayle got into his white colour 1979 Mercedes-Benz car along with his driver Julio Cesar Gallardo. Just few blocks away a rocket propelled grenade hit the car shattering the car in to smithereens. Nicaragua woke up to a new reality.

Surely there was a reason behind this assassination. The Somoza family ruled Nicaragua for a period 40 years since 1936 (starting from his grandfather, Anastasio Somoza Garcia) and is said to have amassed wealth of more than half a billion dollars.

But Anastasio Somoza Debayle was famous for another Mercedes car. That Mercedes-Benz 300D car in blue colour with chassis number 7500143 was specially built for him. This car had a radio-telephone, luxurious interiors along with a refrigerator, etc. This scale model is an exact rendition of the same.
